Academic Affairs Unit
The Academic Affairs Unit at CSIR-CDRI manages all academic activities, including doctoral program admissions, short-term training programs, and project supervision for various programs offered by colleges and universities.
What we do

Streamline Ph.Ds
The unit streamlines activities for research scholars, including Ph.D admissions, periodic assessments, and thesis submissions.

Facilitate Placement
The unit facilitates the placement of project students from external institutions with suitable research groups at CDRI.

Organize Events
The unit organizes and oversees academic events, including National Science Day, CSIR Foundation Day, and CSIR-CDRI Foundation Day.

Support Student Affairs
The unit supports the Institute's management in student affairs.
Ph.D Programs
AcSIR Ph.D Program
CDRI offers Ph.D programs through the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). Admissions occur twice a year (January and August sessions) and are advertised on the AcSIR and CSIR-CDRI websites. See more details here
Eligibility Criteria
  • Master's degree in science with minimum 55% marks (or equivalent) for General/General-EWS
  • Master's degree in science with minimum 50% marks (or equivalent) for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST, Third gender, and Persons with Disability (PwD)
Mode of Entry
Applicants must have a valid National-level Fellowship (JRF/SRF) or be a Project Assistant working at CSIR-CDRI for at least one year. Staff working at CSIR-CDRI and industry-sponsored candidates may also be eligible. Please find more details of eligibility requiements and mode of entry ​​in the attachment.

Ph.D Application Procedure

Apply Through AcSIR
Students with valid fellowships can apply through the AcSIR website for sessions starting in January or August.

Direct Application to CDRI
Candidates eligible with a national fellowship (check eligibility here) can apply to the Academic Affairs Unit, CSIR-CDRI, with supporting documents.

Assessment and Interview
An assessment committee evaluates applications, and selected candidates are invited for an interview.

Provisional Admission
Students are provisionally admitted upon production of valid score cards or fellowship letters, with final admission confirmation after receiving the final fellowship award letter.
Postdoctoral Programs
Candidate who had completed Ph.D degree in Science and Engineering and interested to work in the research areas of CSIR-CDRI can apply for various post-doctoral fellowships of CSIR, SERB, DST, DBT, ICMR, ICAR, etc through CSIR-CDRI. The interested candidates can identify the research mentors among CDRI scientists and apply for the PDF position with detailed CV and copies of the certificates. At present Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI) offers certificate courses under the Skill Development Program. Skill shortage remains one of the major constraints to the continued growth of the Indian economy. We wish to address this knowledge-gap by professionally trained youth of India.

Jigyasa
Central Drug Research Institute, is known for its active participation in Jigyasa - a student-scientist connect program initiated by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Jigyasa aims to connect school students and scientists to foster scientific temper among the youth and to encourage them to pursue careers in science.
CDRI's participation in Jigyasa involves scientists from the institute interacting with school students.
